COLLEGE DESCRIPTION:
Mountain Empire Community College is located in Big Stone Gap, in the far southwestern part of the state, serving the residents of the counties of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson, as well as the City of Norton.

SUPERLATIVES/RECENT ACCOLADES:
  • The Southwest Virginia Leadership Academy is designed to enhance the leadership programs of area businesses. The academy assists with raising future leaders within their respective organizations by attracting speakers to the region to motivate the leaders of tomorrow with the knowledge and skills necessary for success
  • The National Science Foundation Grant has been extremely beneficial to MECC in regard to the GIS Certificate. It has allowed the college to 1) develop a brochure, 2) have the GIS Advisory Committee update and validate the certificate, and 3) articulate the courses in the certificate with four year institutions

The Center for Workforce Development provides businesses, industries, and governmental agencies with training programs to achieve a competitive edge through innovative, effective, and efficient courses that promote life-long learning and economic well-being in the world marketplace. The Center provides customized training, pre-employment training, and offers a variety of courses in areas including computer and human resources.
