Virginia has the highest percentage of technology workers in the country and ranks 4th in total high technology employment as reported in Cyberstates 2011.
The American Electronics Association’s definition of technology includes both manufacturing and services industries. Clearly the services side comprises the majority of high technology employment in Virginia, with Computer Systems Design and Related Services accounting for half of the Commonwealth’s total technology employment.
The economic output of Virginia’s technology industry is $58.4 billion. Technology also supports $46.5 billion in additional economic output in Virginia.

- According to the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, more than 18,500 students were enrolled in information technology programs and over 3,400 degrees and certificates were rewarded in the 2009-10 academic year.
