Today's leading distributors are taking increasing advantage of Virginia's
proximity to Eastern U.S. and Midwest markets. Target, Wal-Mart, The Home Depot,
QVC Network, Sysco, Ford, and Advanced Auto Parts are just a few that have set
up supply chain centers throughout Virginia. More than 250 distribution companies
operate in Virginia accounting for more than 40% of the containerized imports
at the Port of Virginia.From 2002-2006, distribution firms invested over $970
million and created over 10,600 new jobs in the Commonwealth. Virginia exported
$14.10 billion of merchandise in 2006—a 15.46% increase over 2005. Centrally
located on the East Coast, Virginia is within 750 miles of more than 200 million
people and 301,000 manufacturing firms.

The Port of Virginia offers world-class shipping facilities and a schedule
of more than 5,400 sailings annually to over 250 ports in 100 foreign countries.

This ice-free port handles more standardized containers than any other
East Coast port and, due to a sandy harbor bottom that is dredged to over
50 feet in depth, is the only East Coast port capable of handling the largest
container ships in the world.

Virginia’s Inland Port (VIP) located within a Foreign Trade zone
effectively brings the benefits of the Port of Virginia 220 miles closer
to U.S. markets. Five-days-a-week rail service between the VIP and the marine
terminals in Hampton Roads allows direct access to the trade routes of the
many international shipping lines that call on the Port of Virginia.

APM Terminals International B.V. recently opened a state-of-the art, $450
million terminal in Hampton Roads that doubles the Port of Virginia's cargo.
The new APM terminal handles the largest container ships in Maersk’s
fleet with great rail connections to major US markets.

The Port of Richmond enjoys direct access to the Atlantic Ocean. Two deepwater
berths accommodate both ships and barges. The Port provides over 300,000
square feet of covered warehouse space, 44 acres of storage and a fumigation
facility on site.
