Dear Friends:
My commitment to the hard-working people of Virginia is to provide a stable
financial environment, help small businesses succeed, foster competitive regional
economies, tap the strength of Virginia’s tourism attractions and preserve
our beautiful state’s natural resources. ‘Moving Virginia Forward’
is the goal of my administration.
Virginia is indeed a breath of fresh air for our business community. The Commonwealth’s
natural and developed assets, world-class education system, national and international
access and diverse workforce are all advantages that will ensure the continued
success of enterprise growth. These positive attributes are among the reasons
Virginia was named the best-managed state in the country by Governing Magazine
in early 2005. I intend to build on this record of success.
The Governor of Virginia should always be the Commonwealth’s “Chief
Jobs Officer.” In order to continue to attract new investment and new
jobs to Virginia, we must focus on the importance of government support to uphold
our pro-business environment. To enforce my commitment to keep moving Virginia
forward, I want to target our efforts toward regional strengths to create the
most jobs for the state’s economic development dollar. I will support
efforts to build these strong regional economies, tailored to the specific needs
of each region so that all communities participate in Virginia’s business
growth. I also am forming a group of Governor’s Economic Ambassadors,
business leaders from every region of the state, to leverage private sector
leadership to actively participate in recruiting efforts.
Leading our business recruiting program, the Virginia Economic Development
Partnership (VEDP) continues to excel as the Commonwealth’s economic development
team. Founded in 1995, the Partnership offers a unique combination of public
and private enterprise and has built a strong reputation in both sectors. Offering
years of experience, VEDP’s staff understands the complicated demands
of your business location decision and will work diligently to provide the foundation
needed to facilitate the process and help your company prosper.
Since the landing of English settlers in 1607 at Jamestown, the Commonwealth
of Virginia has stood for prosperity. British colonists came on our shores four
centuries ago as a commercial experiment. Today, that same spirit of enterprise
grows strong in Virginia. We welcome you to join us as we continue to build
on our 400 years of accomplishment and continue moving Virginia forward.
Sincerely,
Timothy
