GOVERNOR KAINE ANNOUNCES $18 MILLION ARIAKE USA EXPANSION IN HARRISONBURG
-Ariake project to create 25 new manufacturing jobs-

RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Ariake USA, Inc., one of the world’s largest providers of stocks, bouillons, and natural meat flavorings, will invest $18 million to expand its Harrisonburg manufacturing facility. The 58,000 square foot expansion will create 25 new jobs. Virginia successfully competed with Arkansas and China for the project.

“This expansion is the company’s second since it moved to Virginia in 1989,” said Governor Kaine. “Ariake originally chose Harrisonburg for its close proximity to quality raw materials and the Port of Virginia, and we are pleased that decision continues to bring the company success.”

Ariake Japan Company Ltd. was established in Japan in 1966. Ariake USA was established in Torrance, California, in 1985. The company is one of the largest producers of stocks and bases in the world, offering a diverse selection of meat, poultry, seafood, and vegetable products. The company operates plants in China, Japan, France, Belgium, and the United States. Ariake USA, Inc. established its Harrisonburg facility in 1989.

“This expansion doubles the size of our existing facility in Harrisonburg,” said Ariake Director Jamie Eanes. “In addition to increasing the production capacity for existing product lines, we will also install equipment that allows us to manufacture new product lines. Ariake is dedicated to utilizing state-of-the-art technology and staying on the cutting edge of new product development. We look forward to our continued business development in the Shenandoah Valley and the state of Virginia.”

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the City of Harrisonburg to secure the project for Virginia. Governor Kaine approved $50,000 from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Harrisonburg with the project. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide training assistance through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.

“Harrisonburg has been fortunate to have Ariake USA, Inc. as a strong corporate citizen and neighbor,” said Harrisonburg Mayor Rodney Eagle. “We are glad this business leader continues to make tremendous investments in our community and excited to see even more success for them.”
