-VIMCO invests $6.14 million in Hanover County-
Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced VIMCO Inc., a subsidiary of Lutron Electronics Company, Inc., will construct a new manufacturing facility in the Northlake Industrial Park in Hanover County. The companies will invest more than $6 million in this project, creating 105 new jobs and retaining the 45 employees that currently work at a VIMCO facility in Henrico County.
"I am very pleased to announce that VIMCO will be expanding in Virginia," Governor Gilmore said. "The Commonwealth will certainly benefit from the growth of this leader in the lighting control systems industry."
Governor Gilmore approved a $125,000 grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund to assist Hanover County with site preparation. The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Greater Richmond Partnership and Hanover County assisted Lutron and VIMCO with their decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services.
"Virginia is a great place to work and live; we couldn't be happier with our decision to stay and expand here," said VIMCO president Tony Lovette. "With partners like Lutron and the Governor's office, our opportunities for growth are phenomenal."
VIMCO offers a wide variety of motorized and manual window treatments, including the nearly silent Sivoia™ motorized window-shading system. Lutron Electronics, headquartered in Coopersburg Pennsylvania, is the world's leading designer and manufacturer of lighting controls and architectural lighting control systems for residential, commercial and institutional applications. The partnership between the two companies is borne of the acknowledgement that in any building, it's equally important to have control of both artificial light and sunlight. Together, Lutron's lighting controls and VIMCO's window-shading products provide total control of all light. This range of expertise is unique in the industry, making this partnership the only single-source solution for total light control.
"Lutron and VIMCO made the right decision to expand in Virginia," said Secretary of Commerce and Trade Barry E. DuVal. "Our pro-business climate will encourage prosperity for all involved."
