Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Connecticut Spring & Stamping Corporation will locate a facility in the City of Newport News. Under the name CSSC Virginia LLC, the company will initially employ 80 people, yet expects to hire 300 by the year 2001. The company will invest $3 million in the project.

"It is truly gratifying that this respected company has chosen to locate a new facility in Newport News and the Commonwealth," said Governor Gilmore. "CSSC Virginia will find a quality workforce and high quality of life in the Hampton Roads-Peninsula region."

The Connecticut Spring & Stamping Corporation was founded in 1939 and is headquartered in Farmington, Connecticut. CSSC Virginia LLC will serve as a sub-assembly and manufacturing operation for customers throughout the Southeast. Its first customer is Canon Virginia, also located in Newport News. CSSC Virginia will manufacture sub-assembly parts for Canon's copiers.

"We are excited about establishing an operation in Newport News and look forward to becoming a part of the Virginia community," said Ray Hunt, CFO of Connecticut Spring & Stamping Corporation.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Peninsula Alliance for Economic Development, the City of Newport News and its Industrial Development Authority assisted the company with its decision. The Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services.

"This company will have a promising future in Hampton Roads," said Secretary of Commerce and Trade Barry E. DuVal. "We are thrilled that CSSC Virginia chose Newport News as its new home."

"We are very pleased to have this new project in Newport News," said Mayor Joe Frank. "We look forward to the new jobs it brings our citizens and the opportunity for growth. We are very grateful to the Governor and the Secretary of Commerce and Trade for their efforts on our behalf."
