Governor Allen Announces New Pharmaceutical Packaging Facility
-- Quality Packaging Systems Plant Will Create 109 New Jobs --
Richmond - Governor George Allen today announced that Quality Packaging Systems, Inc., will locate a new pharmaceutical packaging plant in Chesterfield County, creating 109 jobs for Virginians over the next five years. This $6 million facility will begin operations in June, and will become the only contract pharmaceutical packaging company in the Commonwealth.
"Quality Packaging Systems' new Chesterfield location will capitalize on Virginia's positive pro-business climate," said Governor Allen. "I welcome this new company as it plays a key role in Virginia's growing pharmaceutical industry. I am especially pleased that Quality Packaging Systems is locating in one of the new Enterprise Zones created in 1994."
Quality Packaging Systems will market its services nationwide and will occupy the former Herald Pharmacal building in Chesterfield. The company provides contract packaging services to major pharmaceutical manufacturers during new product launches and special projects.
"Chesterfield County's highly capable workforce confirmed Virginia's reputation as an ideal location to do business," said Paul Mangano, president and chief executive officer of Quality Packaging Systems, Inc. "The support we received from State and local government played a pivotal role in this decision."
"Chesterfield is delighted with this announcement," said Chesterfield County Administrator Lane B. Ramsey. "Once again, our quality workforce and the quality of the community have attracted a major investment."
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Greater Richmond Partnership and the Chesterfield County Department of Economic Development assisted the company with its decision. Governor Allen has asked the Virginia Department of Business Assistance to provide workforce training services.
