The Virginia Economic Development Partnership is seeking a PC Support Intern for the Information Technology Division during the summer of 2014 (May-August.) This energetic self-starting individual will perform hardware inventory, provide basic helpdesk support, and document technical procedures. Qualified candidates should be students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate school seeking on-the-job experience in IT.

Knowledge and Skills required:
• Excellent writing, documentation, and communication skills
• Software skills using Microsoft Office - primarily MS Word and Excel
• Knowledge of Microsoft Windows
• Familiar with mobile devices such as Android and IOS

Duties performed:
• Physical inventory and surplus of obsolete equipment
• Documentation of technical procedures
• Basic Helpdesk support , as needed

This is a wage position working up to 29 hours per week and does not carry benefits. Hours are flexible to accommodate class schedule(s). Hourly rate: $12 - $14 per hour.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is seeking a GIS Intern for the Research Division during the summer of 2014 (May-August.) The successful candidate will receive hands-on experience with the suite of Esri software products, namely ArcGIS Desktop 10.2, desktop extensions, ArcSDE, and ArcGIS Online. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to work on a variety of GIS projects to include digitizing and editing, creating metadata, researching and creating datasets by geocoding addresses, cartographic work to update standard maps used throughout the agency, and geo-referencing image files to update datasets. The successful candidate may also conduct research and work directly with managers to assist with project support. The GIS intern will attend departmental meetings and user group sessions.

Qualified candidates should be recent graduates or students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate school seeking on-the-job experience in GIS. Ideal candidates will have experience using GIS and working knowledge of Esri’s ArcGIS product family. VEDP uses Microsoft Office 2013 software on the Windows 7 operating system. Experience using Word, Excel, and Outlook required. Experience with Microsoft Access is preferred. Applicants should be task-oriented, highly organized, and possess a strong interest in GIS. The qualified applicant will be self-motivated, able to work independently, and communicate effectively with staff.
